One more room almost done

I haven't been blogging much for the last week, or doing much of anything else, either. I'm sick! I had a sore throat for a few days, and then I thought it was better, but now it's a full-blown cold. Oh well, I figured it was about time I put an update on here. We've almost finished the living room. Jai's done most of the work as I have either been working or lying in bed for the most part. It's looking great, though, all that's left is to repaint the molding.

I had four people sign up for the yoga classes I am running out of it, so I'm pretty happy with that. I was telling Jai, I don't even think Crystal Pool could have gotten four people by putting up posters around town for a week beforehand. One thing we're learning - living in a small town is all about word of mouth.
In other news, we have a new mayor in town. We didn't get to vote because no one ran against him. A couple of people have asked us which one of us will run for his seat on town counsel, but we aren't eligible because we haven't lived here for six months yet. Oh well, next official election is in 2008. Lookout, Bridgetown!
Also, we won our curling match again!!!!!!
And here's a shot of Emma looking pretty:

Miraculous Healing and Olympic Dreams

Hello Everyone! This'll be short because it's getting very late here. I haven't posted for a few days because I had a bit of a cold, and spent a couple of days lying around in bed, while Jai worked hard. Our living room is looking awesome so far, it's sitting down there in all it's primed glory right now. I don't have a pic of that, but I do have some nice drywall shots:

And some window frost shots:

And Jai got some really nice river shots. It's all frozen over, but then it was so windy that it all bunched up:

Also, the Webster the bunny update is that he miraculously cured his own eye!

And we won another curling match! After only six ends! I think we're almost ready for the Olympics!

Brrrrrrrrr

Brrrrrr!!!! It was COLD today! Apparently even for here. This morning I walked to work in -35degrees with the windchill. NEGATIVE THRITY-FIVE!!! Instantly, bone-chillingly cold! Tomorrow we're supposed to be back up to a balmy -6, so that will be nice. I tried to take a picture of the frost on the window, but it only sort of worked:

We've spent the last couple of days working on the living room. That wasn't the original plan, but an opportunity to potentially teach a yoga class in there has got us working like busy little beavers to get it done. So far, the living room has been closed off and packed with so much stuff it was impossible to walk through. So all that got cleared out and semi-organized. It actually made the house feel a lot more open because we also cleared out the front hall and set it up a little bit too. Still ugly, though.

AND we put the first food into the pantry! It was so fun, just like setting up house when I was a little kid. It feels really good to get that all cleared out and begin to have some, even just a little, organization in the house.

Jai subbed in a game of curling tonight while I was at work. Wednesday night is the competitive league, so it was a little tense, I think, but he says everyone was at least friendly. We won our game on Monday night against our imaginary arch-rivals. It was a really fun game because both skips were calling some highly creative shots.
And that's all our news!

more wedding pics and a lazy day

Hello! We've had sort of a relaxed couple of days. Ever since I've started working, I feel like I can enjoy my down time a little more, which is silly because I'm only working 20 hours a week! Anyway, today we spent just doing some things around the house. We hung our new dust filter in the shop, which is going to be so amazing - one step closer to the ever elusive dust-free environment! We were outside in the yard just tidying up some brush and trying to figure out how we want to arrange things in the spring. It was a nice warmish kind of day, so we decided to drive down to the beach for a while. We got some beach rocks to start a proper fire pit, although we have a lot more prep to do before we can actually burn anything. There was already a temporary fire pit there with cinder blocks, so we pulled all that out and moved it over a couple of feet. We're thinking of setting up a nice little area with gravel and benches all around it. It'll be really great in the summer. Tonight we went over to Sarah and Derek's house, and jai and Derek and a fellow named Andre sat around upstairs and watched Borat and Jackass 2, while Sarah and I sat in front of the fire and knit and chatted and drank tea. It was great. And now Emma is having a great time running all over the house, onto the bed, off the bed, into the wallpaper pile, down the stairs, up the stairs, onto the bed, off of the bed...and so on. It's really cute. All in all, what a fabulous day! I don't have the camera up here to put up any pictures, but I thought I might put up a few more of the wedding pics, so here they are:

Pantry Pics

Hello Everyone! Well... the pantry is finished...almost! The floor is done, the shelves are done, the walls are done, the ceiling is done, it's all done except for attaching the doors back onto the built-in bins. Whew! Jai spent all day ccarefully lining up the floor tiles, and it looks great!!!! (we think!!) It's not the colour scheme we would have picked at the start, but it turned out pretty good. And soon we can put food back into it, instead of having it piled all over the dining room. Here's the befores to get you prepped:

And the afters:

My job is going pretty well so far. Today I had a kids after school activity where we made dreamcatchers. I couldn't believe how tired I was after 1-1/2 hours of essentially babysitting six kids. I was totally wiped! If I ever thought I could be a teacher, I'm not so sure now! Then tonight I hosted the first ever Bridgetown Knitting Circle. No one showed up except Sarah, so we hung out all night and talked and knitted, and I got paid for it! It kind of made up for the other part.
Today in the mail we got the rest of our wedding photos finally. They are so amazing, it was even worth the wait. I'll post a few here now, and maybe a few more later:

new news

Hello! The last couple of days have been busy ones around here. I've started my new job, although so far I've just been planning for next week when the programs actually start. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, although I am a little bit nervous about being able to entertain all those kids! And now we're such a part of the town that on my key ring, I have keys for the Curling Club and the Library. That's kind of fun.
I think we've finally got our pantry colours figured out, but it hasn't been painted yet, as Jai has taken on the very big job of stripping all the wallpaper out of the laundry room/downstairs bathroom and preparing it for paint. Looks like we'll be doing a lot of painting this weekend! Once you get to the painting stage, though, it all seems so dramatic. Paintings fun 'cause when you're done the room looks so much better.
I finally got my Nova Scotia driver's license today. It's a HORRIBLE picture. I look like a cartoon, and Jai looks like a criminal in his. But my new driver's license does have my married name on it. That's the first official thing.
I guess that's all for now. I don't have any new pictures for you, but I can put some more snow pics up. The snow has all melted as the last couple of days have been quite warm. The radio said it was 11 degrees today!

We think these are bunny tracks!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a great night! We had a very nice evening, we were invited over to our friend's house, and it was a perfect evening with good conversations and new friends and glasses of champagne. Yay, a most excellent start to what promises to be a very eventful new year.

We've spent the last several days working on the pantry. It's almost done - all the shelves were stripped and put back in, with some new pieces created and fit. Everything was primed, the ceiling and walls were painted, and then we had a bit of a colour crises. We didn't really know if we liked the colour on the walls, so we decided to get a different paint colour to do the shelves than the paint we originally bought. We put a second coat on the walls and then painted the windowsill the new colour. And then we didn't like it, either. So now we think we've found the right colour, but nothing was open today, so we couldn't get new paint. We're still going to use the other two cans we've already bought in the laundry room and the kitchen respectively, so it won't be too expensive of a mistake, but we are having a bit of trouble. What we thought was going to look great and "modern country" ended up looking kind of "'50's Diner." Hopefully the new colour will remedy it because we're running out of rooms to put our mistakes in!

We had some snow here yesterday, but only about half an inch. Still, it looks very pretty - these are some pics from just outside our backyard.
